The Pram Race was for many years an annual institution in the Teddington Calendar, ably steered by the Lions Club. In 2014, after a break of several years, the Teddington Society and friends decided to revive the tradition.
The Pram Race really is as simple as groups of people wearing silly costumes and pushing one of their number in a pram around a course which takes in visits to various pubs on the way.
The main rule is “HAVE FUN” while raising money for local charities.
To take part, all you need to do is register here on the website or visit our resources page for a downloadable PDF application form which you can deliver or post to The Masons Arms. Thanks to a mystery benefactor who is covering our costs, entry to the Pram Race is now FREE!
You can download sponsorship forms from the resources page for your team/club/pub to raise as much as you can for our nominated local charities.
You will need to decorate your pram and dress up to compete for the Best Dressed Team/Pram Award. The Best Dressed team will be judged at the start of the race by an independent panel of judges.
There will also be a prize for fastest team over the course. Not every team will want to race of course. The teams with a competitive streak will be started first with a minute gap in between starting times to avoid any clashes. Those wishing a more leisurely day can just go at their own pace, stopping at participating pubs to be checked in and have a tipple before going to the next pub.
The Pram Race will end at Udney Hall Gardens where the Teddington Village Fair will be taking place. We hope all team supporters will be there to see teams passing the finishing line to thunderous applause. There will be a beer stall at the fair for those in need of refreshment before the awards are made on the main stage when teams have all finished the race. (So don’t stay too long in the pubs before the finish)!
There will be a prize for Most Sponsorship pledged; this will be based on your sponsorship forms at the start of the race, as we are not really allowed to collect money en route.
Please do read and respect the Race Rules as we want to avoid anything that would stop us running the Pram Race in the future and to keep everyone safe.
So… just get your application in, find a pram, think of a dressing up theme, raise as much money as you can, keep fit over the next few months, or failing that have a drink and think about it, but don’t think too long!
